Will Rooney touches down after solo effort
St Albans kicked off and within a couple of minutes were 3 points up from a penalty for not releasing.
From the reatart St Albans played their way up field but were forced into touch 5metres out from the Hitchin line. St Albans managed to steal the ball at the lineout and forced their way over the line but were held up. From the resulting scrum St Albans cut through the Hitchin defence to score under the posts to make the conversion a formality
Hitchin were finding difficulty in getting their hands on the ball and creating any continuity and the majority of the play was between the St Albans 10 metre line and the Hitchin 22. Another penalty against Hitchin for not releasing was kicked for a lineout on the Hitchin 5 metre line. St Albans secured the ball and following several phases went over in the corner. The kick missed.
Hitchin then began to string some phases together and St Albans were conceding several penalties but Hitchin were unable to capitalise until a rolling maul from a lineout 10mtres out ended with Jon Welsford scoring a try which went unconverted. A similar move eight minutes later resulted in a try for Tom Tidey converted by Ben Wiggins. Unfortunately, the momentum that these scores gave Hitchin was interrupted just before halftime when Hitchin centre Carwyn Morgan was knocked out during a tackle and had to be carried off in an ambulance.

A penalty against Hitchin for a high tackle was kicked for a lineout 5 metres out from Hitchin line but they managed to retrieve the ball and run out of defence to the half way line
A break by second row Ryan Arbon into the St Albans 22 was snuffed out by a scramble defence.
The play swayed back and fore between the opposing 22s until the 38th minute when Hitchin passed the ball to Will Rooney who ran past his opposite number , kicked ahead and won the race for the touchdown giving Hitchin the lead at 17-15. This however was short lived as St Albans struck back when their centre cut through the Hitchin defence to score under the posts, with only a minute left
